Queen Mary University of London is seeking to appoint a Regional Student Recruitment Manager to join the International Student Recruitment East Asia Team. This role, based in Beijing, will be pivotal in delivering the University’s international student recruitment, partnership development, alumni engagement, and graduate career strategies across East Asia. The role requires extensive domestic and occasional international travel. Experience in the international higher education sector—ideally within the UK higher education system—is preferred but not essential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Student Recruitment · Lead undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) recruitment efforts, building and maintaining strong relationships with agents and international school counsellors in the region. · Collaborate with line manager to initiate, plan, and organise local recruitment and conversion-focused events, including agent workshops and offer-holder events, in targeted cities. · Conduct regular visits to recruitment agent offices across China to interview prospective students, engage with, and train agency staff. Advise agent counsellors, prospective students, and offer-holders on various topics, including courses, entry requirements, and application processes. · Take a leading role in monitoring application data, coordinating conversion activities, and developing CRM campaigns. Analyse recruitment data regularly to produce reports and updates. · Focus on postgraduate research (PGR) student recruitment, working closely with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and school PGR administrators. · Represent and promote the University to stakeholders at national and international exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and promotional events. Make targeted recruitment and relationship-building visits to key influencers. · Collaborate with school marketing managers to regularly coordinate school-specific recruitment plans. · Liaise with Admissions teams to ensure timely processing of applications. · Conduct market research proactively to support recruitment strategy development. · Collaborate with university colleagues to gather intelligence and build an effective regional recruitment strategy. · Oversee and initiate the production of new marketing materials tailored for China. · Support in-country recruitment visits from QMUL London-based staff. · Call and follow up with CRM leads, applicants, and offer-holders. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager. Marketing · Develop and implement a digital marketing strategy tailored to the region. · Support digital campaigns aimed at enhancing visibility and recruitment. · Keep agents and school counsellors updated on University news, events, and program developments. Alumni Engagement · Support local alumni engagement initiatives to build stronger links with alumni across China. · Assist with in-market alumni events and collaborate with the London-based Directorate of Development and Alumni Engagement. Partnership Support partnership activities across East Asia, working with universities, education agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following: Experience and Knowledge · In-depth knowledge of the higher education systems in the UK and China. · Prior experience in education marketing, recruitment, or related fields. · Familiarity with using social media channels for international student recruitment. · Proven experience in managing external relationships with individuals and companies. Skills and Abilities · Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with excellent statistical and data analysis capabilities. · Ability to prioritise a varied workload and operate both independently and as part of a team. · Ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. · Proficiency in advising prospective students and their families on study options in a knowledgeable and professional manner. · Computer literacy, including experience in webpage updates and editing. · Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English. Desirable · Knowledge of issues affecting UK higher education in international student recruitment markets. · Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) tools and marketing analytics.
